Additional glory for Germany in Niechorze with Kaczmarek and Walkenhorst

Thomas Kaczmarek and Alexander Walkenhorst added some more glory for Germany at the Polish Masters – second stop of the 2011 CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship – after Karla Borger and Britta Büthe had claimed the women’s competition on Saturday. The final game did not live up to the expectations of the many local fans as the Germans needed only two sets to edge Emiel Boersma and Dan Spijkers of the Netherlands (21-18, 21-19).
“I love playing here in Poland” stated Thomas Kaczmarek, “as my heart still beats for the country where my family comes from. This is quite an unexpected victory and therefore we are extremely glad” he added.
Bronze went to another Dutch pair, Jon Stiekema and Christiaan Varenhorst, who also edged in straight sets Latvia’s Toms Smedins and Artis Caics (25-23, 21-19). “The tournament was perfectly organized, the only minus was the weather. Today it was not rainy but windy and it was not that easy to play. We are happy with this third place”.
The program of the last day started with the semis where Kaczmarek/Walkenhorst cruised past Stiekema and Varenhorst in straight sets (21-14, 21-12). The game lasted for only 30 minutes and it was really one-sided. In the second semifinal, Boersma/Spijkers beat Smedins/Caics 2:0 (21-17, 21-12).
Kaczmarek and Walkenhorst claimed their second title of the year in Niechorze after topping the standings also of the CEV Satellite held this past June in Lausanne.
