The Drawing of Lots for the Volleyball tournaments set to be played within the frame of the European Youth Olympic Festival 2009 – slated for next July 19-24 in Tampere – was staged this past April 25 in Finland.
The European Youth Olympic Festival, more commonly known by its initials EYOF, is a biennial multi-sport event for youth athletes from the 48 member countries of the association of the European Olympic Committees. EYOF has a summer edition, which was held for the first time in Brussels back in 1991, as well as a winter edition, which began two years later in Aosta, Italy. EYOF is so far the only all-European multi-sport event.
Eight teams will be competing in the Volleyball tournaments and the entry lists for both boys and girls have been defined by the EOC - in close cooperation with CEV - according to the final rankings of the 2007 Youth European Championships, with Finland having an automatic spot for both events as organizing country.
The results of the Drawing of Lots staged in Tampere read as follows:
Boys (born in 1991-92 and NOT later)
Pool A: France, Poland, The Netherlands, Germany
Pool B: Serbia, Russia, Finland, Belgium
Girls (born in 1992-93 and NOT later)
Pool A: Belgium, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands
Pool B: Serbia, Turkey, Russia, Finland
Mr. Philip Berben, CEV Senior Vice President and Treasurer, who is co-operating along with the EOC and the local organizers for a successful staging of the Volleyball competitions, points out: “Finland is doing an excellent job and I am confidently looking at this summer’s Festival, which is going to be a great happening for the European youth as well as for the local audience”.
