The winner of the five-day tournament will qualify for November’s Grand Champion Cup which already boasts Vietnam, Thailand, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Poland and Brazil amongst its participants with the South American continental champion and a wild card filling the remaining vacancies.
The South American Women’s Championships will see two groups of four before the top two from each group advance to the semi-finals.
Defending champion and World Grand Prix champions Brazil will be seeking their 16th title having been victorious for the past seven consecutive years. Peru, who has won the title 12 times, is the only country to have claimed the honour as South America women’s champion.
Wednesday’s opening match will feature Venezuela against Colombia before Peru takes on Chile, Uruguay plays Argentina and Brazil goes up against Paraguay.
