The girls of Panathinaikos ATHENS needed only to score one set tonight against the archrivals of Olympiacos PIRAEUS to qualify for the next round of the GM Capital Challenge Cup but such a traditional derby is always played with much energy and motivation. The “green” players of Panathinaikos defeated their “red” opponents 3:1 and will be playing Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR of Slovenia and the 8th finals.
Ntoumitreskou and Tomasevic made the difference tonight on the court for Panathinaikos. On the other hand, Olympiacos had Chantava and Koleva in a good shape but that was not enough. Takis Floros, coach of Panathinaikos ATHENS, mentioned: “We wanted to win this match, we did it and we are happy. Of course we think this competition is very prestigious and we want to get as far as we can”. The coach of Olympiacos, Giannis Nikolakis, added: “We missed the qualification for the next round but I feel happy. We did our best in every single point. We actually fought bravely in the first set but after having lost it, our motivation was gone”.
