Οι "ελληνικοί" αντίπαλοι στο Champions League

Ευνοϊκή για τα ελληνικά χρώματα ήταν η κλήρωση των ομίλων του Champions League στους άνδρες. Τόσο ο πρωταθλητής Ολυμπιακός, όσο και ο κυπελλούχος Παναθηναϊκός έχουν ελπίδες να περάσουν στην επόμενη φάση.
Στην κλήρωση που έγινε στη Βιέννη οι "ερυθρόλευκοι" βρέθηκαν στον 3ο όμιλο μαζί με την πολωνική Γιαστρζέμπσκι (σ.σ. ομάδα που αντιμετώπισε πέρυσι ο Παναθηναϊκός και νίκησε δύο φορές), τη σλοβένικη Μπλεντ που συμμετείχε στο φάιναλ φορ της διοργάνωσης και την πρωταθλήτρια Μαυροβούνιου, Μπούντβα.
O Παναθηναϊκός θα βρει απέναντι του στον 9ο όμιλο τη ρωσική Ντινάμο Μόσχας, την ομάδα που απέκλεισε τόσο τους "πράσινους", όσο και τους "ερυθρόλευκους" από τη διοργάνωση, τη βελγική Κνακ Ρούζελαρ του πρώην πασαδόρου του "τριφυλλιού", Φρανκ Ντεπέστελε και την αυστριακή Τιρόλ Ίνσμπρουκ.
Στον επόμενο γύρο περνούν οι δύο πρώτες ομάδες και ο καλύτερος τρίτος από τους έξι ομίλους.

Bulgarian Beach Volleyball tour to start today in Kardzhali

 In the city of Kardzhali, excitement and tension are building up before the official start of the M-Tel Beach Masters Tour in Bulgaria. Preparations are almost complete and the players are training before the coming battles.
The first event of this year’s tour will take place in the famous arena Kardzhali in front of 3’000 exalted fans at the city considered the birthplace of the Bulgarian Beach Volleyball and home of some of the best players in the country. The local heroes Konstantin Mitev and Neven Neshev, as well as Nikolay Kolev and Andrey Nikolov, expect tough competition in a tournament that would shed light on the distribution of power before the key event in Bulgaria for 2010, the CEV Challenger presented by M-Tel to be played in Varna next July 14-18.
The national tournament in Kardzhali begins on Friday, June 25, featuring 12 male and 8 female teams in the main draw. Expectations are high and everyone is looking forward to an exciting weekend of Beach Volleyball actions.

ΤΣΑΜΠΙΟΝΣ ΛΙΓΚ: Κληρώνει για Ολυμπιακό και Παναθηναϊκό

Η κλήρωση των ομίλων του Τσάμπιονς Λιγκ ανδρών θα πραγματοποιηθεί την Παρασκευή 25 Ιουνίου στη Βιέννη στις 21.15 (ώρα Ελλάδας). Στην κληρωτίδα θα μπουν και οι δύο εκπρόσωποι του ελληνικού βόλεϊ ο πρωταθλητής Ολυμπιακός και ο κυπελλούχος Παναθηναϊκού, οι οποίοι δεν θα βρεθούν αντιμέτωποι στη φάση των ομίλων.

New clash between Serbian coaches in Pool A

Last year, for the very first edition of the CEV European League, Serbia and Bulgaria played in the same preliminary Pool before advancing to the final four. Serbia won three out of four matches: one in Gabrovo (Bulgaria) and the other two at home in Obrenovac. Serbia then continued its march to clip the title at the final four staged in Kayseri (Turkey) whereas Bulgaria finished third there, after defeating France in the consolation final.
After four matches in this year’s CEV European League, Serbia and Bulgaria are tied on the top of the standings, both with four victories and without having dropped a single set. However, the Bulgarian team is currently topping the charts thanks to a better point ratio. The double-header scheduled for this weekend and starring these teams will also feature another clash between two Serbian coaches, namely Zoran Terzic and Dragan Nesic.
“These matches with Bulgaria will be completely different from the ones we had in the previous weekends. Although we play at home, we are not the favourites and I would say that we have 50:50 chances to win. Of course, if we play hard and we are motivated, and if we fulfil everything we practiced in our training sessions, then I think our chances are slightly higher than those of the Bulgarians. But, we have to wait and see. I know that we will be supported by our incredible fans, and we will do our best not to disappoint them” comments local mentor Zoran Terzic.
Serbia and Bulgaria played also four matches so far at the European Championships. The Serbian team won only once, namely in the final round of the 2007 competition jointly organized in Belgium and Luxembourg.

Οι αντίπαλοι των ελληνικών ομάδων σε CEV Cup, Τσάλεντζ Καπ

Πραγματοποιήθηκε το Σάββατο 19 Ιουνίου στο Λουξεμβούργο η κλήρωση του CEV Cup και του Τσάλεντζ Καπ Ανδρών και Γυναικών για τη σεζόν 2010-11.
Παράλληλα, η Ευρωπαϊκή Συνομοσπονδία (CEV) ανακοίνωσε ότι φέτος δεν θα υπάρξει φάιναλ-4 σε CEV Cup και Τσάλεντζ Καπ Ανδρών και Γυναικών αλλά μέχρι το τέλος των διοργανώσεων θα γίνονται εντός-εκτός αγώνες.
Επιπλέον, το «χρυσό» σετ επανέρχεται στην προηγούμενη μορφή του και θα παίζεται όταν δύο ομάδες είναι ισόπαλες στις νίκες, ανεξαρτήτως του λόγου των σετ και θα κρίνει την πρόκριση στον επόμενο γύρο.
Οι ομάδες που θα αποκλειστούν στην πρώτη φάση του CEV Cup θα συνεχίσουν στο Τσάλεντζ Καπ. Στη συγκεκριμένη φάση, οι 16 ομάδες που προκρίθηκαν από το 2ο γύρο του Τσάλεντζ Καπ θα μπουν στην κληρωτίδα μαζί με τις 16 ομάδες που αποκλείστηκαν από την πρώτη φάση του CEV Cup. Στους «32» του Τσάλεντζ Καπ δεν μπορούν να κληρωθούν μαζί ομάδες που ξεκίνησαν από την ίδια διοργάνωση.

DOL for 2011 CEV Cup and GM Capital Challenge Cup coming up on Saturday morning

The European Cups Commission (ECC) resumed this afternoon to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to analyze facts and figures of the 2009/2010 season and prepare a flurry of major events coming up in only a few days, starting with the Drawing of Lots for the 2011 CEV Cup and GM Capital Challenge Cup scheduled for Saturday, June 19, at 9 a.m. As far as the 2011 CEV Champions League is concerned, the DOL will be organized next Friday, June 25, in Vienna in combination with the traditional European Volleyball Gala and in cooperation with the Austrian Volleyball Federation.
Mrs. Riet Ooms, CEV Vice President and ECC President, received the provisional registration lists resulting from the files submitted in the past few weeks to the CEV Competitions Department. A total of 184 clubs from 35 different countries registered for the next season whose kick-off will be celebrated this weekend with the first DOL for the CEV and GM Capital Challenge Cup. “We are extremely pleased with the outcome of the registrations, especially taking into consideration that the general economic scenario is not yet that brilliant. The ECC will check once again all files and draw a final list of the teams that will be competing in the 2011 European Cups right before the DOL” says Mrs. Ooms.
Results of the DOL for the 2011 CEV Cup and 2011 GM Capital Challenge Cup will be posted on the CEV website on Saturday morning, so do not forget to watch out for the pairing of your favorite team(s)!

GB captain Ben Pipes dreams of final four

Great Britain captain Ben Pipes does not want another taste of déjà vu when his team hosts Romania in a CEV European League double-header at Crawley this weekend. Pipes has seen GB follow an identical pattern this season in the competition - losing 3:1 in the first matches (to Slovakia and Spain) and then turning it around the following day with stunning 3:0 wins.
The setter knows that similar results this weekend will still leave them playing catch-up in their pool but a double victory over Romania would put them top. Pipes knows the young GB squad is growing up fast and even without the vastly experienced Jason Haldane proved too hot for Spain in Salamanca last Saturday.
“I’m obviously delighted, it was a big turnaround from a 3:1 loss to a 3:0 win," he stated.
"It was like déjà vu from the previous weekend when we beat Slovakia 3:0 on the Sunday match at EIS in Sheffield. It was a solid performance - not always pretty - but we battled for the result which means we maintained the level, so now is the time for us to say that this is the level we keep, to get this type of result going forward. We are massively looking forward to the matches next weekend in Crawley, not only do we get our first game down near London we get to test out what crowd we can gather there, I’m hoping they are as loud as the Spanish crowd was which made for a great atmosphere to play in. It is important that the two matches in Crawley against Romania have become must-win matches, and it is entirely within our own hands to qualify for the Final Four in Guadalajara in July”.
Haldane returns to the GB squad this weekend which will not be welcome news for a Romanian side which has lost only once so far, a tight five-set affair with Slovakia. GB head coach Harry Brokking knows his team now has a platform on which to build after showing they can win on the road. The fact his team have turned defeats into victories in the space of 24 hours (and also had a remarkable turnaround against Azerbaijan in the first round of the CEV European Championship this past May) is a credit to him and his coaching staff.
“I am very happy with the result and of course it keeps us in the race for the Final Four," he said after Saturday's win in Spain. "There was a lot of tension in the players after the loss in the first match, so it was a good win, with better serving and blocking than the day before. I am very much looking forward to Saturday's televised match against the group leaders Romania at the K2 in Crawley at 3.00pm and hope that we can get good support to help us go forward. We will be very much concentrating on the first game”.

Another home victory for Turkey in Gaziantep

Turkey celebrated another victory this afternoon in Gaziantep as the local guys defeated once again Austria for the second leg of the 2010 CEV European League. This time the hosts needed four sets to cruise past their opponents but finally were happy with their overall performance.
After the previous match staged on Saturday, their Croatian-born coach Veljko Basic had stated: “We had to work too much to find consistency in blocking and serving and hence were affected by some errors. We did not play really good but this is a very young team, so it takes time to have things run properly. Still I want to have my young players on the court since the European League represents a very important chance to get international experience. And at the end of the match we were able to realize that this tactic paid off”.
This afternoon the teams set up a very exciting battle, with the score staying extremely close in the opening set. After the first technical break, Turkey changed gear and especially young setter Berkan Bozan performed really well. The hosts stretched their margin at the second mandatory stop (16:12) and profiting of some mistakes of their opponents closed the set pretty quickly at 25-18. Austria fought back bravely in the second set and Thomas Zass scored many points in attack. That was the key to level the match with the set ending at 25-23 for the guests. Turkey led all the way through in the third set, with Burutay Subasi and Ahmet Pezuk contributing pretty much to the final 25-18. Austria clawed back in the opening section of the first set, leading first 4:0 and then 8:5 at the first technical time-out. Even though the guests set the tempo also for the second compulsory break (16:12), still Turkey stormed back – especially with Serhat Coskun – and captain Sinan Cem Tanik to finally tie at 23 and finish the match some minutes later. Austrian Thomas Zass topped the charts of the best scorers this afternoon with 25 points while Serhat Coskun was the most effective among the Turks with a total of 17.

Power Cup comes to an end with many happy faces

The World's biggest youth Volleyball tournament, the Power Cup, finished on Sunday in Seinäjoki accompanied by chilly weather conditions. The last competition day was actually pretty cold with temperatures up to 11 degrees. But even the chilly weather didn't slow the pace of the best young players along their way to the final success. Many happy faces were to be seen on the podium during the awarding ceremony.
Most of the classes got Finnish winners. In the boys’ division, there were no winners from foreign countries, but Tallinna Kalev of Estonia won bronze in the A-boys/born 1990 or later and Rakvere Sportschool – also from neighboring Estonia - took the silver medal in the D-boys/born 1998 or later. In the girls’ competition, two gold medals went to Estonia: Tallinna Kalev won the U22-girls/born 1988 or later and Kunda Volleyball Team topped the standings in the A-girls/1990 born or later. There was still one foreign class winner, when Tallinna Kalev won the D-mixed/born 1998 or later, a competition starring boys and girls playing together.
During the Power Cup the Finnish Anti-doping Agency promoted some actions for clean sport and fair play with the special program called "Clean Win". Mauro Berruto, the head coach of the Finnish men's national team, and Tapio Korjus, former javelin thrower and Olympic champion in Seoul 1988, set a good example by signing the petition asking for a clean sport.
“Clean sport is important. Everybody, who does any sport, has to enjoy doing it and use sport as a key for a good and healthy life” said Tapio Korjus. ”Our top athletes and sport idols are showing an example for the youngsters, who are our future in all top sports” continues the Olympic champion.
Italia-born Mauro Berruto did also support the same campaign: “Clean sport should be the one and only way to practice any sport. Fortunately we have in Volleyball an advantage, i.e. that Volleyball skills are more important than power” mentioned the mentor of the Finnish national team.
Both sport professionals called also for versatility. “Children should improve their physical skills by doing every possible sport. This is the way how young athletes can grow and develop into top athletes cleanly” they said.
This versatility is to be found also in the Power Cup: the girls of a soccer team from the club FC POHU (Pohjois-Haagan Urheilijat) entered the division C-girls/born 1995 or later. The team is sponsored by FADA and played with the name of PUPU. “The team is a good example of versatility in sports. The girls won one match and they are more than happy with that. They are natural winners, when they take a chance to challenge themselves in other sport than the one they have done for years, that simply fires them up” commented Susanna Sokka, Information Manager at FINADA.
Jaana Laurila, Project Manager for the Power Cup on behalf of the Finnish Volleyball Association, announced at the end of the competition that the 2011 Power Cup will be organized in Lahti and run there through June 9-14. Teams from Finland and all over Europe are already invited to join that unique experience!

ΕΥΡΩΠΑΪΚΟ ΑΝΔΡΩΝ (Β΄ όμιλος-β΄ προκρ. τουρνουά, 1η ημέρα): Φινλανδία-Μ. Βρετανία 3-0

Χωρίς να εντυπωσιάσει, η Φινλανδία επικράτησε 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-17) της Μ. Βρετανίας στον εναρκτήριο αγώνα του β΄ προκριματικού τουρνουά του Β΄ ομίλου του ευρωπαϊκού πρωταθλήματος 2011 που φιλοξενείται στο Ηράκλειο της Κρήτης. Η ομάδα του Μάουρο Μπερούτο ξεκίνησε νωχελικά («είχαμε 10 ώρες ταξίδι και μόλις 2 ώρες προπόνησης» υποστήριξε αργότερα ο Ιταλός προπονητής) και μάλιστα βρέθηκε πίσω στο 1ο σετ με 21-20. Δηλώσεις

Ο Μάουρο Μπερούτο τόνισε: «Μετά τους αγώνες στη Λετονία ταξιδεύαμε δέκα ώρες και κάναμε μόνο δύο ώρες προπόνηση. Γι' αυτό και είχαμε άσχημο ξεκίνημα σε όλα τα σετ. Ήταν όμως, πάρα πολύ σημαντικό για εμάς να κερδίσουμε και τα καταφέραμε. Κάναμε αλλαγές στους παίκτες για να είναι έτοιμοι για τα δύο επόμενα παιχνίδια».

Ο προπονητής των Βρετανών, Χάρι Μπρόκινγκ, αναφέρθηκε στο βόλεϊ της χώρας, παρομοιάζοντας την ομάδα του με ένα μικρό παιδί που παίζει βίντεο γκέιμς: «Συγχαρητήρια στην Φινλανδία, είναι ένα βήμα πιο κοντά στην απευθείας πρόκριση. Εμείς είμαστε ένα νέο έθνος στο βόλεϊ, δεν έχουμε εμπειρία σε τέτοιο επίπεδο και για αυτό είμαστε εδώ, για να παίζουμε απέναντι σε κορυφαίες ομάδες όπως η Φινλανδία. Πάμε βήμα βήμα. Θέλουμε σε κάθε σετ να κερδίζουμε 20 πόντους, μετά να πάρουμε και κάποιο σετ, μετά και νίκες».

Και πρόσθεσε: «Η Μεγάλη Βρετανία είναι σαν ένα παιδί που του δίνεις να παίξει βίντεο γκέιμ και ο Σούπερ Μάριο πέφτει κάθε φορά στην ίδια παγίδα και πεθαίνει. Κάποια στιγμή θα καταφέρει να το ξεπεράσει, μετά θα πέσει σε άλλη τρύπα, θα μάθει να την περνάει κι αυτή και στο τέλος θα περάσει και την πίστα. Ίσως να φανεί η βελτίωσή μας και να δείτε μια έκπληξη εδώ σε αυτό το τουρνουά.

Από τη μεριά του ο αρχηγός των Φινλανδών, Γιούκα Λεχτόνεν αναφέρθηκε στην πίεση που είχε η ομάδα του ως φαβορί του παιχνιδιού: «Είμαι χαρούμενος που πήραμε τη νίκη. Δεν ήταν εύκολο για μας, αφού ήμασταν το φαβορί και η πίεση ήταν μεγάλη. Ειδικά στο ξεκίνημα, αφού κάθε φορά είναι δύσκολο. Πιστεύω πως η Μεγάλη Βρετανία σε λίγα χρόνια θα αποτελεί πρόβλημα για κάθε ομάδα, αφού βελτιώνεται συνεχώς».

Τα συγχαρητήριά του στη Φινλανδία έδωσε ο αρχηγός της Μεγάλης Βρετανίας, Μπέντζαμιν Πάιπς: «Συγχαρητήρια και καλή τύχη στη συνέχεια της διοργάνωσης. Ξεκινήσαμε αρκετά δυνατά μετά όμως η απόδοσή μας έπεσε, κάναμε λάθη και απογοητευτήκαμε. Η αλήθεια είναι ότι ειδικά στο δεύτερο σετ μπήκαμε αρκετά δυνατά, και κάναμε μια καλή αντεπίθεση, αλλά στη συνέχεια μείναμε πίσω.

Η Φινλανδία είναι πιο δυνατή ομάδα, έχει περισσότερη εμπειρία και αυτό φάνηκε στο τρίτο σετ, όπου τελείωσε τον αγώνα. Το σημαντικό για μας είναι ότι κάνουμε πρόοδο και να βελτιωνόμαστε συνεχώς, κάτι που ίσως δεν φαίνεται στα αποτελέσματα, φαίνεται όμως στο παιχνίδι μας. Τώρα περιμένουμε το ματς απέναντι στην Ελλάδα και το σημαντικό είναι να πάμε με θετική σκέψη».

Entry lists for 2011 CEV Champions League are finalized

2011 CEV Champions League - Men & Women Luxembourg, May 27, 2010. The European Volleyball Confederation is pleased to inform that the starting line-up for the 2011 CEV Champions League was finalized today after countries were allocated places according to the European Ranking and a few wild cards were attributed to complete the draw for the Main Phase. The Drawing of Lots for the 2011 CEV Champions League will be staged next June 25 in Vienna, within the frame of the traditional European Volleyball Gala, at the Platinum Vienna (UNIQA Tower).

Ο Hρακλής ζητάει wild card από τη CEV

Τη συμμετοχή του στο Τσάλεντζ Καπ της επόμενης αγωνιστικής περιόδου αιτήθηκε την Δευτέρα (17/05) με επίσημο έγγραφο του προς την CEV το ΤΑΠ Ηρακλής.

Αναλυτικά η ανακοίνωση του ΤΑΠ Ηρακλής ανέφερε: "Το ΤΑΠ Ηρακλής απέστειλε τη Δευτέρα (17/5) έγγραφο στην ΕΟΠΕ για να δηλωθεί η γυναικεία ομάδα στο Τσάλεντζ Καπ της επόμενης αγωνιστικής περιόδου, ενώ παράλληλα με δεύτερο έγγραφο στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ομοσπονδία αιτήθηκε wild card για τη συμμετοχή της ανδρικής ομάδας στο Τσάλεντζ Καπ της επόμενης σεζόν".
Πλέον στην ομάδα της Θεσσαλονίκης αναμένουν την απάντηση της Ευρωπαϊκή Ομοσπονδίας η οποία ενημερώθηκε μέσω της ΕΟΠΕ όπως και για την γυναικεία ομάδα του Ηρακλή που θα πάρει την θέση του Πανιωνίου στην ίδια διοργάνωση.

TRENTINO BetClic outclasses Dinamo MOSCOW in final match

Italy’s TRENTINO BetClic extended this afternoon in Lodz its absolute dominance in major international competitions with a quick and comfortable 3:0 win against Dinamo MOSCOW in the final match of the 2009/2010 CEV Indesit Champions League. The final outcome of the match was never in danger as Dinamo did definitely not perform at its best and the Italians showed off all their strength and power to double their victory from last year in Prague.
The hosts of PGE Skra BELCHATOW claimed the bronze medal after an intense match against ACH Volley BLED to delight once again their many fans in the Atlas Arena and boost once more – if needed – the tremendous popularity of Volleyball in Poland. The Poles were certainly not fully happy with their final ranking, but could nevertheless finalize in good fashion their home campaign before they start focusing on the upcoming Championship series of the national league against JASTRZEBSKI Wegiel S.A.

TRENTINO BetClic and Dinamo MOSCOW are the 2010 finalists!

TRENTINO BetClic and Dinamo MOSCOW will battle for the trophy of the 2009/2010 CEV Indesit Champions League after a delightful couple of semifinals set the tone this afternoon in Lodz for a great Volleyball weekend. In front of a sold-out arena the local hosts of PGE Skra BELCHATOW enjoyed a brilliant start in their game against Dinamo, but were then hampered by too many mistakes in attack and could not finalize their quest for the final victory. In the second semifinal, the defending champions of TRENTINO BetClic experienced some shakes only in the second set but finally clearly cruised past Slovenian sensation ACH Volley BLED to try to double up last year’s victory in Prague and extend their domination in the most prestigious international Volleyball competitions.

ΤΣΑΜΠΙΟΝΣ ΛΙΓΚ ΑΝΔΡΩΝ: Η παράσταση αρχίζει

Οι προβολείς του ενδιαφέροντος στο ευρωπαϊκό βόλεϊ στρέφονται αυτό το Σαββατοκύριακο στη σάλα «Άτλας Αρένα» στο Λοτζ της Πολωνίας, όπου θα φιλοξενηθεί το Φάιναλ-4 του Τσάμπιονς Λιγκ ανδρών. Μετά από τρεις εβδομάδες προσμονής τα πάντα είναι έτοιμα για να αρχίσει η φιέστα της κορυφαίας ευρωπαϊκής διασυλλογικής διοργάνωσης στο βόλεϊ ανδρών.
Αρχικά η διοργάνωση ήταν προγραμματισμένη να ξεκινήσει στις 10 Απριλίου, όμως, η διοργανώτρια αρχή, CEV, αποφάσισε να την αναβάλει επειδή στην Πολωνία κηρύχθηκε πένθος μιας εβδομάδας για να τιμηθούν τα θύματα της αεροπορικής τραγωδίας στο Σμόλενσκ της Ρωσίας, όπου έχασε τη ζωή του και ο πρόεδρος της Πολωνίας, Λεχ Κατσίνσκι, η σύζυγος του Μαρία, αλλά και άλλοι αξιωματούχοι του κράτους.
Στο αγωνιστικό κομμάτι της γιορτής, στον πρώτο ημιτελικό του Σαββάτου η οικοδέσποινα Σκρα Μπελσάτοφ αντιμετωπίζει την ρωσική Διναμό Μόσχας του Αμαράλ Ντάντε, ενώ στη δεύτερη αναμέτρηση κοντράρεται η σλοβενική Μπλεντ με την ιταλική Τρεντίνο για μία θέση στον τελικό της Κυριακής.

Players and fans are ready to fire up real Volleyball party in Lodz

An official press conference was organized this afternoon at the Focus hotel in Lodz to welcome the teams participating in the final four of this year’s CEV Indesit Champions League. PGE Skra BELCHATOW will try to carry the hopes of thousands of Volleyball fans here in Poland, playing first the semifinal against Russia’s Dinamo MOSCOW and then eventually vying for the title against the winner of the match starring TRENTINO BetClic and ACH Volley BLED.
Dr. Jan Hronek, CEV Vice President, opened the press conference recalling the many efforts of the local organizers after the final four was canceled three weeks ago to pay tribute to the victims of the plane crash that caused the death also of Poland’s President Lech Kaczynski. “I would like to thank PGE Skra for their efforts to organize this final for the second time. I wish all participating teams the very best of luck. They did their best to come to Lodz to help the organizers, despite it was very difficult to find a suitable date. I am pretty sure it will be great tournament” said Dr. Hronek.
CEV Vice President and ECC President Riet Ooms added: “We all know the tragedy that affected Poland some 3 weeks ago. We were very sad and knew quite well it was impossible to play on that tragic weekend. Now I am happy that we all managed to find the right solution and organize the final four. It is the evidence of the solidarity of the Volleyball family”.
The floor was then given to the players and coaches of the participating teams. Andrej Flajs, captain of Slovenian sensation ACH Volley BLED, said: “We are in a better situation than the other teams, as we have already won our local league and could focus on the final four. Moreover we have won the promotion to the next Champions League, so we feel comfortable. We hope to play as good as in the Slovenian league finals - only in that situation we can have a chance against TRENTINO”.
Dinamo’s coach and former international star Yury Cherednik added: “I was and I am deeply touched by what happened in Poland 3 weeks ago. I would like to offer my condolences to the local people. We will try to provide all the Polish fans with the best Volleyball to make it a real party in the Atlas Arena”. His captain Sergey Grankin stated, after having been asked about the influence of the three matches the team lost in the semis of the Russian league against Zenit KAZAN: “Of course, we lost, and we did not play our best but now this belongs to the past. We are thinking about the future and this final four. We would like to win.'
Polish coach Jacek Nawrocki concluded: “I would like to thank all the teams and the CEV for their support and condolences. It is very important for us. As a Polish team, we have not been able to compete 3 weeks ago and all of you understood that. Last time we were very well prepared and confident - but I reckon everybody was. Now it is a different time and a different story, but we have to do once more everything we can to play at our best. Nobody will ever know what would have happened if we had played 3 weeks ago, so it is not important now”.

Association of European Team Sports (ETS) launches official website

The Association of European Team Sports (ETS) that was officially established this past December 8, 2009 in Nyon is very pleased to launch as of today its official website under the URL www.europeanteamsports.com  
All European team sports have certain things in common, be it in their everyday activities, such as the development and regulation of their sport in Europe and the organization of competitions, or in issues linked to their politico-economic environment. It was this realization that led them, early in the new millennium, to come together for informal discussions on points of common interest. Regular meetings of this sort were organized by basketball (FIBA Europe), football (UEFA), handball (EHF) and volleyball (CEV), who were later joined by ice hockey (IIHF) and rugby (FIRA-AER). In July 2008 the European team sports submitted to the EU a joint document entitled 'Safeguarding the Heritage and Future of Team Sport in Europe' defining their common position regarding various key challenges faced by European sport. The next step was taken in December 2009, when the group strengthened their relationship by creating the Association of European Team Sports (ETS) to promote, develop and represent the interests of European team sports.
