World League: Η Ρωσία πήρε το ντέρμπι

Στο ντέρμπι κορυφής του Ε' ομίλου, η Ρωσία επικράτησε δίκαια και εύκολα με 3-0 της Βραζιλίας, ωστόσο και οι δύο ομάδες πήραν την πρόκριση για την 4άδα και περιμένουν να μάθουν τους αντιπάλους τους.
Τόσο οι Ρώσοι όσο και οι Βραζιλιάνοι είχαν αρκετές αλλαγές στη σύνθεση τους, ωστόσο η Ρωσία φάνηκε να επηρεάζεται πολύ λιγότερο.

2011 CEV Volleyball European League - Men - Volleyball fever starts spreading around in Kosice

With only one week to go before the final four that Slovakia will be staging for the first time in history at the splendid “Steel Arena” in Kosice, the guys mentored by Italian-born head coach Emanuele Zanini have first to complete their campaign in the prelims playing Turkey for the last round of action. These games will be also held in the fabulous “Steel Arena” which this past May played host to the 2011 Ice Hockey World Champs.
The Slovak national team got to Kosice already on Wednesday. “We will play for the very first time in the Steel Arena and this is a real bonus before the final four coming up next week” says middle blocker Emanuel Kohut. “In this way we can really profit of the home advantage” he stresses.
Slovakia will be missing captain and setter Michal Masny who is suffering of a slight knee injury; the 31-year old will enjoy some rest this weekend to get fully fit for the final four. “We want to win our matches with Turkey and display a good performance, so that we’ll be able to attract as many fans as possible for the final four. We hope to play in front of a big crowd here in Kosice” adds Tomas Kmet who will captain the Slovak team this weekend.
The guys of the national team got very close to the local community on Thursday as they joined the official opening of a Beach Volleyball court there in Slovakia’s second-largest city. An exhibition match was organized alongside the opening ceremony and that game was joined also by the President of the Slovak Volleyball Federation, Mr. Lubor Halanda, himself a great Volleyball player in the ‘80s. “This Beach Volleyball court is a great idea” he said, “as I want to see young guys and girls joining the court and not spending all of their time in front of a PC”.
The players of the national team signed autographs for their fans and attended also a press conference. “We wanted to spend some time with our supporters and I am happy that we are here” stated spiker Martin Sopko, who also joined the exhibition but actually as co-commentator of the game. “I hope this will turn into an ideal invitation for the games coming up in the Steel Arena” he said.
Head coach Emanuele Zanini traveled for the first time to Kosice and he really likes the ambiance there: “The city is very charming, the hall is great and there is a lot of interest from the fans and the media. That is a real pleasure. We will do our best to go for a great result” declared the Italian-born coach who is mentoring Slovakia for the fourth running season.

Greece's nationals hope for major attendance at their last games in Chania

As they attended a press conference staged at the local Town Hall in Chania, the head coaches and captains of Greece’s national teams invited all fans to get together at the “Kladisou” sports hall this weekend to cheer for the home guys and girls in their last round of play for the prelims of the 2011 CEV Volleyball European League.
“We are pleased to be here in Chania for the last round of the European League” said captain Nikolaos Roumeliotis. “We have been playing with glowing hearts in the previous rounds and exploiting a unique chance for our young players to get more international experience. They need as much playing time as possible to improve their skills. I invite all Volleyball fans to come to the sports hall and support us as we try to clip two more wins against Austria”.
“I would like to combine the charm of Chania with some good games of my team” added head coach Alekos Leonis. “The positives I can eventually take from the last games in the European League will help me prepare the Olympic qualification coming up this fall. We expect quite many people to join us and see the matches with Austria”.
“I would like to invite the fans, young players, children with their parents to come and support us in the most difficult round of play as Serbia is definitely the strongest team of our Pool” singled out Nikoleta Koutouxidou. “So we all want to get some experience from these matches and of course possibly win”.
“Chania is one of the most beautiful places in Greece and we are happy to come here for our last matches in the European League” stated her mentor Dimitris Floros. “We will play a world-class team, Serbia, so this is a unique chance also for the local audience to watch some classy Volleyball”.
“We are here as we are pursuing our vision to promote and support Volleyball across the country” said Mr. Thanassis Rerras, Board of Administration member at the Hellenic Volleyball Federation. “That’s why we staged matches in Orestiada, Samos, Pyrgos, Xanthi and here in Chania. The island of Crete is simply wonderful and there we have quite many Volleyball clubs and players. Our national teams are here to display a great performance and so we want as many fans as possible to come to the sports hall and attend the games”.
“We are really glad to welcome our national teams but also the Volleyball players representing Austria and Serbia” stressed the Mayor of Chania, Emmanuel Skoulakis. “The matches will be played in a splendid sports hall and we are happy to stage a prestigious event like the European League here in Chania. I wish the very best of luck to all athletes”.
Mr. Dimitris Lipsakis, Vice Mayor of Chania, added: “It is a real honor for us to stage these games. We’ll do our best to deliver a good organization and make everyone feel at home. We support Volleyball and any sport which helps bring positive values to our kids and youth. I wish all teams the best and hope we’ll have many children with their parents attending the games to create a nice and friendly atmosphere”.

Ολοκληρώθηκαν τα προκριματικά ανδρών στο Ρέθυμνο

Ολοκληρώθηκαν οι προκριματικοί αγώνες ανδρών του «Masters Ρεθύμνου Beach Volley» στην παραλία της πόλης (ανάμεσα σε Haagen-Dazs και ξενοδοχείο Porto Rethymno. Έτσι, προέκυψαν και οι τέσσερις ομάδες που θα τοποθετηθούν στο κυρίως ταμπλό των αγώνων που θα διεξαχθούν στον ίδιο χώρο το Σαββατοκύριακο.
Ξεχώρισε η πρόκριση στο κυρίως ταμπλό της ομάδας των Μαμάη Γιάννη / Ποθητάκη Κώστα, που θα βρεθούν για πρώτη φορά στο κυρίως ταμπλό ενός Masters στο εφετινό Πανελλήνιο σιρκουί, αφήνοντας εκτός τους Τσαλικιάν Ατάμ / Τσαλικιάν Μιράν, που είχαν κατακτήσει την 9η θέση στην Αίγινα και την 7η στην Αττική, στα πρώτα δύο Masters.
Οι υπόλοιπες τρεις ομάδες που προκρίθηκαν ήταν οι Λαμπρινός Μιχάλης / Σακόγλου Χάρης, Αργυρακάκης Κώστας / Γκόρτσανιουκ Ανδρέας, Αποστόλου Δημήτρης (CYP) / Ευσταθίου Κωνσταντίνος (CYP). Οι τέσσερις ομάδες προστίθενται στις άλλες οκτώ που βρίσκονταν ήδη στην entry list του κυρίως ταμπλό των ανδρών:

Κατά τη διάρκεια του 1ου Volleyleague Camp, οι αθλητές θα συμμετέχουν σε προπονήσεις και αγώνες, αλλά στο περιθώριο της διοργάνωσης έχουν προγραμματιστεί και διάφορες άλλες παράλληλες εκδηλώσεις που αφορούν τους αθλητές.
Υπενθυμίζεται ότι έχει αποσταλεί πρόσκληση σε όλους τους προπονητές των ομάδων της Volleyleague προκειμένου να συνδράμουν στην πρωτοποριακή αυτή εκδήλωση και ήδη υπάρχει θετική ανταπόκριση για να στηρίξουν κι από την πλευρά τους το συγκεκριμένο εγχείρημα.

Αλλαγή Μυλωνά με Καβαθά κόντρα στη Σερβία

Ένα πρόβλημα ασθενείας της λίμπερο της Εθνικής Ξανθής Μυλωνά, στάθηκε αρκετό για να την κρατήσει εκτός των αγώνων με τη Σερβία για την τελευταία αγωνιστική των ομίλων του Ευρωπαϊκού Λιγκ. Ο Ομοσπονδιακός τεχνικός, Τάκης Φλώρος, αποφάσισε να αντικαταστήσει την αθλήτρια του Παναθηναϊκού, επιλέγοντας στη θέση της την κεντρική του Ολυμπιακού, Άννα Καβαθά. Έτσι, λίμπερο της Εθνικής στα ματς με τη Σερβία θα είναι η Ειρήνη Κελεσίδου του Ηρακλή.

Έτοιμες για τελικό οι Νεάνιδες

Φουλ για τελικό για πρώτη φορά στην ιστορία της στο Βαλκανικό πρωτάθλημα οδεύει η Εθνική Νεανίδων που το Σάββατο (15:30) αντιμετωπίζει το Μαυροβούνιο στους αγώνες που γίνονται στην πόλη Ιβανζίτσα της Σερβίας. Αξίζει να αναφερθεί ότι η ελληνική ομάδα δεν κληρώθηκε στα ημιτελικά, αλλά στην ουσία «διάλεξε» το Μαυροβούνιο που το είχε κερδίσει και στη φάση των ομίλων, αφού το αντιπροσωπευτικό μας συγκρότημα δεν είχε κανένα χαμένο σετ και λιγότερους πόντους εναντίον του.
Την Παρασκευή, η ομάδα του Ομοσπονδιακού τεχνικού, Απόστολου Οικονόμου αντιμετώπισε την Τουρκία σε ένα φιλικό παιχνίδι προπονητικού χαρακτήρα και ηττήθηκε με 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-17) με τον Έλληνα προπονητή να δίνει χρόνο συμμετοχής σε όλες τις κοπέλες και να ξεκουράζει περισσότερο τις βασικές.
Αμέσως μετά το τέλος του παιχνιδιού ο ίδιος τόνισε ενόψει του αυριανού αγώνα: «Είναι ένα σημαντικό παιχνίδι για εμάς αυτό με το Μαυροβούνιο γιατί θα μας δώσει την ευκαιρία για πρώτη φορά να βρεθούμε σε έναν τελικό Βαλκανικού πρωταθλήματος με την Εθνική ομάδα των Νεανίδων. Κερδίσαμε το Μαυροβούνιο στη φάση των ομίλων και πιστεύω είναι στο χέρι μας να το ξαναπετύχουμε».

ACH Volley LJUBLJANA unveils new logo and ambitious plans for the future

The ACH Volley Volleyball Club staged yesterday its first press conference after officially moving to Slovenia’s capital city, Ljubljana. Among other things their logo – an orange dragon which is also the symbol of Ljubljana – was unveiled in front of quite many media. As a matter of fact, it was an upgrade of their existing and, throughout Europe, already recognisable team logo, which reflects, as stated in the presentation by its designer David Fartek from the ArnoldVuga Agency, the culture of sports spirit “whom we have added combativeness and fieriness at the symbolic level. The ACH Volley logo is now circular and, considering it contains a dragon’s head, consequently also the last letter in the symbol, the 'Y', is twisted mischievously to symbolise the dragon’s tail and also an arrow pointing upwards...” stated Fartek.
There is much symbolism and expression in the club’s new logo, which actually visualises its strategy in various areas: in competition, as linked to the first team, in organisation, as linked to the team’s professional management, and in development, as linked to the work with the younger groups being performed both in Ljubljana and in Bled.
ACH Volley namely plans to continue its intensive work in all of those areas as it was discussed at the press conference by Rasto Oderlap, President of the Management Board of ACH Volley, Andrej Flajs, team captain, Matjaž Silič, manager of the junior program in Bled and Gregor Kumer, President of ŠD Fitt Črnuče, which up to now cooperated with the Olimpija Volleyball team but in the future will work with ACH Volley.
Moreover, part of the discussion with the journalists was dedicated to a more in-depth evaluation of the upcoming season, in which once again the team will be starring in the CEV Volleyball Champions League.

World League: Η πρώτη έκπληξη από την Αργεντινή

Με πρωταγωνιστή τον Φακούντο Κόντε (τον οποίο είχε παίκτη στη Ματσεράτα ο Ομοσπονδιακός τεχνικός της Ιταλίας Μάουρο Μπερούτο) η Αργεντινή έριξε την πρώτη βόμβα στην τελική φάση του World League καθώς κέρδισε με 3-1 την Ιταλία.
Η ομάδα του Χαβιέ Βέμπερ παρόλο που έχασε το πρώτο σετ, εν τούτοις δεν το έβαλε κάτω και με μπροστάρη τον Κόντε (26 πόντους) ανέτρεψε την κατάσταση με σχετική ευκολία.

Young Croatian side to welcome Great Britain in Osijek

The city of Osijek will be playing host to Croatia's men's national team also for the last round of play in the prelims of the 2011 CEV Volleyball European League with Great Britain being the last opponent for the home guys. Two weeks ago Croatia did already play at the “Gradski vrt” sports hall – which has a capacity of 3,500 – sharing wins with Pool leader and neighboring Slovenia.
Croatia is ranked at the bottom of the standings in Pool A with a 2:8 win/loss record; right at the start of their campaign in the European League, Croatia and Great Britain crossed their ways in Sheffield where the Britons stormed back from two sets down to claim the first game at the tie-break before losing the second in straight sets.
Head coach Radovan Malevic will have to cope with the absence of all major stars such as Igor Omrcen, Toni Kovacevic and Andjelko Cuk but he is still quite optimistic, although he shows his respect for the British team. “They have been preparing for almost 4 years for the 2012 Olympics in London. They have a few excellent players with great jumping skills. I am sure we’ll have very interesting matches in Osijek. We are currently in the process of monitoring and testing quite many players to prepare the team for the future and we have been using the European League as a good way to prepare for the Olympic Qualifications coming up this fall. I hope that the tournament that we’ll play in November will also take place here in Osijek” said Malevic.
