After two painful defeats Spain aims at performing much better in return matches against Serbia

It is time for revenge for Spain. The Spaniards will meet Serbia in the fourth leg of the Women’s European League, in two matches to be played this weekend in Murcia, less than a week after a couple of painful defeats suffered this past week in Nis, Serbia.
The team of head coach Gido Vermeulen will try to get back at the Serbians, who proved to be too strong for the Spaniards in the two matches played last week in Nis. La Roja team will have its chance to avenge the affront received a week ago with two matches in which the locals will try to use the home ground factor to beat Serbia and attempt the clinch the leadership in the standings of Pool A.
Serbia showed its superiority and currentl tops the standings after having defeated twice Spain with clear 3:0. Despite a slight improvement in the second match, the Spaniards were unable to neutralize the effective performance of the Serbian stars, especially Jelena Nikolic, who turned into a nightmare for the Spanish defence. “We travelled to Serbia last week no so much aiming at scoring a win, but to play at a good level, and we did not quite achieve this”, said the head coach Gido Vermeulen; “I hope that we will improve this week against the same rival and that we will be able to display a good image in front of our audience”, pointed out the Dutch head coach, who expects that the motivation to play at home will help the Spaniards to overcome the mistakes they made last week. “Serbia is one of the best teams in the world, so it would be understandable if we lose but I definitively want my team to play at a good level”, said Vermeulen.
The spirit of the team has not been reduced, notwithstanding of the two three-setter defeats. Nonetheless, the Spanish players are confident of a positive outcome for the upcoming matches. “I am sure that we can play at a better level than what we did in Serbia; I think that we can face the matches more calmed and more disciplined than last week. Serbia is not that far from us; things are going to be different in Murcia”, said the middle blocker Amaranta Fernandez.
The matches will be played on Friday (17:30 CET) and Saturday (20:30 CET) with the men’s nationalo team also resuming to Murcia for a double header against Turkey.
