Kazakhstan beat Uzbekistan 3-0 to top Asia Pool B in the second round of the 2010 FIVB Women's World Championship on the last day of the tournament here today.
Kazakhstan (2-0), Uzbekistan (1-1) and New Zealand (0-2) all booked tickets to the Asian third and final round from Pool B.
Kazakhstan and New Zealand will join South Korea and Chinese Taipei in third-round Pool E, while Uzbekistan will move on to Pool D against China, Thailand and Fiji to fight for the four Asia berths in the final stage of the 2010 FIVB Women's World Championship in Japan.
Kazakhstan started the match with great concentration and a strong desire to win, dominating the entire first set. A string of serves by Karinna Ishimtseva, supported by strong attacks and good defense from her teammates, immediately increased the gap to 8-3 by the first TTO. An obviously overwhelmed Uzbekistan quickly fell to 6-16 in the second TTO. They managed to improve their organization as the set progressed but nevertheless lost 10-25 in 16 minutes.
In the second set, Uzbekistan led 8-6 at the first TTO, but the host team, thanks to a double block by Inna Matveeva and Yuliya Kutsko, soon rallied to lead at 16-11. Sana Jarlagassova's powerful service ace won the set for Kazakhstan, 25-15.
The third set went almost the same as the first set, and Kazakhstan dominated in every department. Even the unstoppable serves from Anastassia Bezzubtseva could not destroy the mood of the host team. Kazakhstan's attacks and blocks, inspired by Inna Matveeva, Yuliya Kutsko and Sana Jarlagassova, put tremendous pressure on Uzbekistan, who fell 25-9 in 19 minutes.
Team MVPs at the competition were Sana Jarlagassova from Kazakhstan, Odina Nazarova from Uzbekistan, and Deborah Hill from New Zealand.
