SCHWERINER SC to miss three more players for the next few weeks

With Patricia Thormann and Anne Buijs already out since they are nursing their respective injuries, the Dutch mentor of Germany’s SCHWERINER SC, Teun Buijs, will be missing three more players – Denise Hanke, Lisa Thomsen and Mira Topic – for the next weeks as the team is getting ready for the start of the 2011/2012 season.
Denise Hanke injured the pinkie of her left hand as she joined a training session this past Thursday; after x-rays it was ascertained that the finger is broken and next week she will be going for additional examinations to see whether she needs a surgery or not; her recovery will depend chiefly on this.
After being dropped out for the 2011 FIVB World Grand Prix whose finals were staged this weekend in Macau, Lisa Thomsen was nominated by head coach Giovanni Guidetti for the group that is currently preparing to represent Germany at the 2011 CEV Volleyball European Championship coming up in late September in Italy and Serbia. The national team is having a training camp in Kienbaum, near Berlin, and it is not clear yet if Thomsen will be retained as part of the group that will fly to Belgrade and open its European campaign against Ukraine next September 24. Thomsen is nevertheless looking forward to this opportunity of joining the national team and possibly also the European Championship.
Mira Topic was also invited – with a last minute call – to join Croatia’s national team that will compete at the European Championship. Topic was never included in its roster in the past 12 months but the coaching staff recently appointed by the Croatian officials opted for her inclusion in the team. She will be playing there some of Europe’s finest teams and her return to Germany will depend on the performance of her group in the prelims.
